What has been coming up the last few days, experiencing and hearing people has to do a lot with the technology of bodies. The walking exercises and the body work that we do every morning, has been making me think about the way we can use some non-wired technologies as ways to make different kinds of connections. These are either connections that help us connect better with ourselves, ground with the electricity and other energies that the earth can charge us with, and/or the energies that we share with other humans, non-human beings, things and ether. I would like to explore this more in some way. Maybe with Consuelo, or maybe through independent self study. Having a conversation with others, they mentioned how things like body work is/was not available to the working class. This is certainly true but might be mostly with some groups of people. The discussion made me think of my grandmother in Ilé Ife Nigeria, but also those of my ancestors in the US who’s bodies and the movement of their bodies on Sundays’ or other spiritual days, became part of a healing process. This is of course not to romanticize the real suffering that their bodies endured and how that became encoded in the DNA I and others inherited. One that had to navigate space through an anticipation, anxiety or fear of what might come next. Often unexpectedly and far too often brutally. Corporality became a part of their existence. All the more reason why movement of bodies became part of their toolkit for survival.  Or at least the attempts towards healing of bodies that were over worked and at times transgressed realized other ways of relating to caring for themselves and others around them. Stamping of feet, clapping of hands, gyration of upper bodies, swirling of hips were all ways that holy ghosts were either awakened, or other spirits were welcomed or chased away.

Also a conversation with Sarrita. Maybe related, how to communicate about the work that is being done to create space for non dominant bodies. In the case of the space we are trying to create, predominantly bodies that have been racialized and are sometimes (though not always) forced to live on margins and more often than not exist on different intersections.
We talked about thinking of communicating through using a:
