Welcome to a techno-disobedient etherpad sheet!
This pad is only reachable locally within the range of the shared portable server.

To prevent this pad to appear in the 'etherdump' list of pads, you can add the word __NOPUBLISH__ anywhere in the text.

This pad installation includes a system to mark pads to include specific keywords, 'snowpoles'. When ++SNOWPOLES++ are used, pads will be included to an aggregator for future re-editing or publishing: https://circulations.constantvzw.org/aggregations

'Snowfields' can be used to mark sections of a pad so that they will appear as edited sections in future pubblications

Yesterday and today, we're discovering different types of technologies such as gardening
"Reading/singing to carrots"

future farmers beginning of 2000s; invited in the context of an exhibition on video games
anti-war games

Playshop exhibition in 2003
Yerba bevena centre for the arts, San Francisco
responding to America's Army, videogame funded by the army and Disney.
giving away for free in high schools, as a way to recruit
different approach to videogames, questioning their economy

E-waste/ create their own wireless network
Deep blue
Cardboard boxes

project of a five between volta and ?? and try to power it with lemons
-> question: amount of energy necessary for our digital practices today (cloud)

powering gameboy with lemons.. all on the tree they would give the same voltage, off the tree they would each give 0.5 volt to be summed..
FF come together in different ways; in 2010 in oslo invited to create a permanent art installation ; proposed to set up a farm in a area that was in a full development; tried to figure out if people would be interested in joining a farm and a bake house
Their project created like a bug in this dvpnt project
400 ppl signed for comittment in darling/gardening
(where people can ground grains and bake? )
spot in the port, space for three years at the start.
>> flatbread society, working group
bakehouse influenced by the book "bakeovens of quebec"
idea of the oven as a mothership for this new place; it was also open (24h/day)
3 techniques of baking at once!
the site in 10 years has become a place where people activate their project, but also lot of people showing up to bake bread
idea of the "commons" quite strong in scandinavia

gene banks? seed banks?
Johan Sward
"We do not need museums to conserve varieties, what we want is to grow them"

2016 eu laws/gmo activists
Différent varieties to grow, became a permanent farm but not enough soil
National farmer union

New bake house, fashioned after a rescue Boat that was roaming the port.
Rotational Farm.
2016 the project was over.
Proposal was to bring back the seeds to where they were first domesticated
Migration of the soil

A boat was sailing to some stops in europe from Oslo to Istambul / Moscow, London also
every stop grains would be brought and exchange with a local farmer, every stop to every stop.

Domestication of grains ( wheat )
with climate change, It has become a very genetically restrained crop, lacking diversity
with a lot of demands..

Certain way of life (for good or Bad)
Herbicide, fungicide, pesticides

changedaa lot f.ex in height.. commercial one is 0.5m high, before was like 1.5m.

In mexico during ww2, Cymmit
Bomb factories were converted in fertilizer factory..
raw material for bombs is the sa m e as for chemical fertiliser ?

if you put chemical fertilizer on wheat, the plant would drop by the end of the cycle.
dwarfing the wheat, it could sustain the fertilizer without falling over.

short one does not shade competition ( other plants ), so then you also need herbicide to kill other plants.
then you have a monoc u lture of wheat. one variety of wheat.
limited genetic variety, and limited plant variety.
this is creating a high risk of disaste r : pest attack, or disease can kill the whole plantation..
so then you need fungicide, grow regulators, a whole cascade of other needs.

8 application of chemicals in a field per season
every application with various chemicals, around 20 chemicals per season..

to give yeld, you need all these imputs, otherwise low or failed harvest.

involved with bread-baking associations,
reconnecting baking with cultivation.
to be able to grow wheat without extreme chemical needs, you need to go back to older varieties of wheat

> get back into cultivation, restoring diversity, restoring height
> receiving seeds from genebanks (but a few of them around 25)

allotments in the UK : plots for people that request a piece of land to grow vegetables
100 pounds per plot per year.. you must use at least 75% of the area of the plot or you would lose it.
5g of seeds, allotments spaces/gardens (in south London?)
432 plots

"Wild lifes" (cats...)

networking bakers - farmers - grain involved
http://www.bicga.org.uk/grain_map.php
heterogeneous
unstable

http://www.wheat-gateway.org.uk/
connecting / exchanging different types of wheat considering also shifting climates, conditions..

"Copyright of a variety of wheat"

there is no such thing as patent in wheat. royalty?
in wheats that are current now, made by big seed companies, you pay farm breeders rights
like copyright is a license that expires, you pay by amount of harvest for example

wheat is self fertilizing
genetic diversity stays consisten as not so much crossing.. the wheat serf-fertilize.
to develop new ones cross pollination is done on purpose.

Hybridation of wheat

F1 crop
first generation 'best' characteristics of both parent variety emerge
second generation 'worst'
and then start to stabilize?
F1 crop will be superior, so that's what most farmers buy from grain industry
you can make F1 yourself by hand making crossings

re establishing wheat landrace? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landrace
can't have total failure in a crop. you will never have a perfect season for everything neither.
Farming that is not oriented to most product to be sold, but to stable supply for a certain community/territory.

Marth is talking about the topic / goal of the commons  in the frame of seeds and in the frame of electromagnetic spectrum

set of devices and technical needs for communications on boat..
navilocator to collect traces of the travel
sstv modulator to receive images over radio..

seeds < > electromagnetic spectrum

++BROADCASTING++
> The analogy comes from agriculture and arrives into radio. But we should understood it critically not to mean "from one to many", instead as throwing seeds, and hoping each seed will grow and become a new producer of seeds, as you want as many as possible to become new emitters as well.
